No. 4 Mk. II* | Socket bayonet for use with the caliber .303 Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifle.
This Prince-Smith & Stells Co. No. 4 Mk. II* bayonet has Arabic markings on the socket. Most likely Jordanian from the Arab Legion, but could also have been used by Iraq. According to Jordanian collector/ researcher Ahmad Hatamleh, Jordan and Iraq were the two countries in the Levant where the British helped establish their national armies. Prior to obtaining independence in 1946, Jordan was a British Protectorate, known as Transjordan. |
